Dr. James Kurtzman

Born and raised in West Los Angeles, CA (Pacific Palisades), Dr. Kurtzman is double Board Certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine as well as OB/GYN. He attended Stanford University where he graduated with Distinction and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa his junior year (given to the top of the class). Following his residency in Ob/Gyn, he completed three additional years of specialty fellowship training to become Board Certified as a Perinatologist (Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist). He also completed an additional fellowship in Obstetrical Ultrasound. In addition to having a very active clinical practice, Dr. Kurtzman has taught at University of California, Irvine, Irvine Medical Center and Loma Linda University Medical Center for many years.

Dr. Kurtzman is a prolific researcher who has been awarded five times at the National level by the Society of Maternal–Fetal Medicine. He is best known for his expertise in prediction and prevention of preterm birth, and he regularly lectures to other physicians both nationally and internationally. Amongst numerous areas, he is extensively trained in ultrasound, evaluation of cervical function in pregnancy, management of multiple gestations, and prenatal diagnosis. He has also been awarded four times by resident physicians for the “Best Teacher Award” (at UCSF, University of North Carolina, University of Louisville, and Loma Linda University Medical Center). Dr. Kurtzman is honored to partner with the outstanding OB/GYN physicians throughout the area, which is one of the motivating reasons for establishing his office in the heart of Irvine.

Dr. Kurtzman has been married to his wonderful wife for over 34 years. He loves being a dad and has two young adult sons. And yes, he did deliver both boys! He has been a competitive runner for many years and today enjoys high-level road cycling. Though his extensive education and training has taken him all over the country, it’s hard to find someone who is more passionate about their undergraduate alma mater than Dr. Kurtzman. Go Stanford!
